DeepBlack
|
DeepBlack is a large artificial intelligence (AI) collection on the Ethereum blockchain. DeepBlack was conceptualised in 2018 and subsequently minted on the Ethereum blockchain in September 2019. DeepBlack endured rigorous and extensive training on various artistic styles to create a limited collection of 3,073 original artworks.
Early history
DeepBlack was conceptualised in 2018 and subsequently minted on the Ethereum blockchain in September 2019.
Development
GAN
DeepBlack employed a two-step process to create the collection. The artificial intelligence engine is a modified Generative Adversarial Network (GAN). The first step is called the 'Generator', and the second is called the 'Discriminator'. The process was fed with a uniformized dataset of fifty thousand famous artworks created by humans. The 'Generator' attempted to create new artworks based on that initial input.
The role of the 'Discriminator' was to seek to identify which pieces of art are computer-generated. If this step failed to identify a work created by the 'Generator', that piece was considered successful in the process.
Once the art was created a further AI process was used to assign each piece metadata 'Boosts' from the MET Museum database[1].
Each of the pieces is generated using custom-trained GAN specific to the collection. This is not available publically.

Recent events
This section is for walking through the modern events chronologically starting roughly around 2021/2022 with the modern NFT era and the phenomena associated with it. This would include a rediscovery for example.
Rediscovery
Contract Renounced
Ownership of the DeepBlack smart contract has been renounced. The zero address is the only one able to withdraw funds or mint new artworks. Therefore, you can collect DeepBlack with the confidence that no more DeepBlack artworks will ever be created. (reference to contract owner on Etherscan)
Supply and frequency
This section is particularly relevant for collectors because of how important it is to understand the scarcity/rarity of a collection. The goal here is to provide collectors with the information they need to understand the dynamics associated with the supply of the collection. This should be a trusted source where collectors can go to get the lowdown on a collection to ensure they are making informed decisions. What is the current supply? Is the supply locked or could the developer create more? If so how many more? Are there important rare attributes that collectors care about such as mint year and if so what is the supply of each one? It may be helpful to create tables in this area to give a more clear representation of supply/rarity. For example with CryptoPunks you could create tables for types and traits like was done here.
Each piece displays its top three Boosts.
